Lord, SAVE ME!
Have you ever come across those who seem to be in a perpetual loop of saying, “God, save me! God, help me! God, provide! God, I need You!” …or perhaps the notorious one, “God, I’m waiting on You to make it happen.” 😜
Do you sometimes feel like you or others are frantically seeking a life vest to “quickly rescue them” all while they drift in their troubles?
While certain seasons do call for us to cry out, saying, “I’m empty, Father. Come.” And yes, genuine surrender before the Lord is authentic and vital! Yet, can we take a moment to honestly consider the other side of this narrative?
True surrender isn’t synonymous with admitting defeat. It often involves acknowledging that His strength is necessary to empower you to conquer the seemingly insurmountable… and then equipping you to act with radical obedience.
However, here’s the thing! Have you observed that radical obedience doesn’t always guarantee immediate triumph? Countless times, I’ve assumed that if I take a bold step, it would automatically lead to “success.” But time and again, I’ve realized that this mindset can be misleading, as God’s perspective on success has many times been different from mine. Authentic surrender requires us to understand that if God leads us to pursue “xyz” and a radical move falls short, that’s okay. It’s okay when/if…we learn. We adjust. We take another audacious leap. Or we swallow our pride and seek assistance. Why? Because we’ve entrusted these failures to Him, absorbed the lessons, and allowed them to mold us—shaping us to become more like Him.
While it might not always be our preference 😉, those striving for maturity comprehend that achievements and setbacks not only refine our understanding of His Word but they also refine us into vessels capable of birthing His promises. (Pause and reflect on how a simple shift in perspective can revolutionize your approach to life.)
Today, surrendering to God might mean resisting the urge to evade the process, resisting the temptation to “external” saviors (in Soul Detox™, we label this as Escaping Discomfort), and resisting the impulse to give up before His response arrives.
May I suggest…Your surrender today might entail two crucial insights:
1. Navigating solo waters isn’t advisable. (Who do you have surround you?)
2. Panic can be contagious. (Who is next to you? Should they be?🥴)
If you tether yourself to those who are awaiting an external savior- the life vest, you expose yourself to their anxiety or words that could easily undermine and hinder your surrender and your acts of radical obedience.
Instead, let’s align ourselves with individuals who can assist us in remaining resolutely obedient to what God has called us to do. Let’s uplift and champion each other, rather than tear down. Let’s remember that dismantling others contradicts our mission. (Steer clear of those who tear others down.) Or, as of late, here’s a personal favorite… “If kind words are elusive, silence might serve you (and all of us🤭) better.”
I am fervently praying for all of you, as we’re all being beckoned into Radical Obedience Actions—not life vests to keep us afloat in misery.
Sending abundant love,
Dr. Tina Hay
