“So then, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the (Rhema) word of God.”
Have you ever read a verse and thought you knew it, only to discover its true meaning later? I’ve been there, and I want to share a passage you might be familiar with. At first glance, it seems to suggest that faith grows through reading or hearing the written word of God repeatedly. But let’s delve deeper!
In the original Greek language of Romans 10:17, Paul used the word “rhéma” to describe the word of God. Rhema, as defined by the Strong’s Concordance, means “a thing spoken, a word, or saying of any kind, as command, report, promise, a thing, matter, business.” It’s not just the written word; it’s the spoken word!
Have you ever had the experience when a scripture you’ve read countless times suddenly comes alive in a new way? That’s a rhema. God speaking directly to you and unveiling His truth in it. It is as if he breathed on the Word, and suddenly it is alive and talking within you.
THIS is when Faith comes…it comes by hearing God’s personal breath-filled messages to you. It’s not just reciting verses; it’s hearing His voice whispering your name.
This one understanding has brought amazing clarity to my heart. Reading a set of words in the Bible is good. Yet, a rhema word—a word spoken directly to you, coming alive in your heart is INCREDIBLE!
I encourage you to reflect today on a scripture, a Rhema, God is saying directly to you through His Word.
What is resonating with your Spirit? There’s a reason for that connection. Revisit those words, cherish His delightful messages to you, and allow your faith to deepen. It is His Breath on His Word.
